I’m stoked that the wonderful people over at CalgaryBride.ca have once again featured one of my weddings on their blog :) They we’re loving the orange and green theme that these two had going on :)

Check it out here!

Not too long ago, they also featured the destination wedding of Tara & Jess that I had the pleasure of photographing last year. In case you missed it, you can check it out by clicking here :)

You can also see video’s from Kelsey & Michael’s wedding by navigating to their page here.

PS – I hope you all remembered the time change this morning. As much as I love having more daylight at the end of the day, an hour of sleep is like gold…

Lindsey & Geoff | Elbow Falls Engagement Photos

March 4th, 2012

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce Lindsey & Geoff!

These two contacted me last year about photographing their upcoming wedding in the Mayan Riviera. We had discussed lots of different ideas for an engagement session, and one of the things they wanted to do was shoot it during the winter time. Naturally, it will make a very nice contrast to their beach wedding photos in May :)

Lindsey & Geoff are very active people, and avid travelers. These guys have been all over the place, and are two people right after my own heart.

I did something a little bit different for their engagement shoot. The two of them were telling me about their favorite brands and styles, and so I got some inspiration for the first part of their session  from stuff you might see in an editorial add for brands like Billabong, Quiksilver, and others like that. I shot this series of images with the sun at their backs so I could get some awesome blown out highlights, with lots of color saturation in the clothing (and those rockin’ shades!).

After they changed, we headed down towards the falls and did a few more images along the banks of the river, and on the rocks that surround the falls themselves. About that time, the wind picked up and the temperature dropped, so we headed into Bragg Creek for coffee :)

The Mayan Riviera is gonna be amazing, and these two are going to have a great wedding. I’m super stoked to be joining them for this adventure.

Here are a couple images from our session at Elbow Falls. I hope you enjoy them!

PS – Be sure to check out their highlight video and more images in the clients section of johnboc.com

PPS – Use the share buttons at the bottom of this post to get the word out about these two!

PPPS – I just got some new Americano T-disks for my Tassimo, and I’m not gonna lie, I’ve had 3 today. Maybe that’s why my hands are vibrating while I’m writing this!

Elbow Falls Engagement Session : Lindsey & Geoff’s Sneak Peek

March 3rd, 2012

Yesterday the three of us ventured out to a windy, chilly Elbow Falls for a short engagement session in God’s country. I absolutely LOVE heading out to the Bragg Creek area, so I was stoked when we all agreed on heading that way. These guys were troopers, and even though it was cold, they stuck it out. It was worth it though; we headed back into Bragg Creek afterwards and stopped at a little place called Cinnamon Spoon for a hot bevy.

Lindsey & Geoff above the waterfall at Elbow Falls

This shot was taken on a rocky ledge right above the main part of Elbow Falls. We climbed over the railings to get out to this spot, and I stood on another rocky platform just above them so I could look down on the falls. The lighting was tricky at this point – the sun kept popping in and out behind the clouds, and didn’t shed a great deal of light on Lindsey & Geoff. I knew I wanted to use my off-camera flash for this shot, but wanted to give it a little more of a dramatic look instead of just lighting them from the front. I had Geoff hold the flash unit behind them in his right hand, and point it up towards their heads. It adds a great little rim might around the subject, and I normally only use this technique when it’s dark.

These two are getting married in a few short months in the Mayan Riviera, Mexico! We kept reminding ourselves how warm it’s gonna be compared to how chilly it was for these engagement photos :)

More photos coming soon!

Breanne & Josh = Engaged | Calgary Wedding Photography

October 6th, 2011

Hey friends :) Here is a little collection of images from our short engagement session at Bowness Park. We were lucky enough that mother nature had decided to leave some of the leaves on the trees for us! This is Calgary after all… fall lasts for about a week, and then the snow comes…gulp.

Thankfully the 3 of us were finally able to combine our schedules and hang out for a bit as the sun went down. I’m sure Breanne didn’t mind being pulled away from her textbooks and studying so we could shoot for a bit :)

Enjoy the video, and be sure to share it if you like it! (Use the fancy share button below…)

PS – These guys are getting married next year in Las Vegas, Nevada. They asked me to come along and shoot their big day. I said yes. It’s gonna be epic. Just sayin’…

Rhiannon & Steve = The Day After | Calgary Wedding Photography

September 12th, 2011

Okay, so this isn’t a true “day after” session; these two had an awesome wedding last year that I was honored to be a part of.

We decided to get together for a bit the other day and shoot at some spots around Rundle Ruins. We had to adjust our approach a little bit, cause when we arrived, there were 4 weddings having their formals done at the ruins :) Popular spot!

No worries though! We just walked around the area looking for cool spots to shoot, which is pretty easy in that area of town. Once everyone had gone, we had the whole ruins to ourselves. Ahhhhhh…

Good times had by all; these two are awesome. Here is a little video of my fav’s. Enjoy!

Here’s the big tease from Ashley & Frank’s eSession yesterday night. We cruised around Inglewood; my favorite place to shoot. These guys were troopers.
